Republicans ran on banning earmarks. Not one candidate opposed that idea, Now, the old guard are all lining up to preserve them. Even Sen. Inhofe (OK) has declared war on the earmark ban and he's been rated as the most conservative Senator in Congress, Even the libertarian Rand Paul hedged his bets, saying earmarks are ok as long as they aren't tacked on to bills in the dead of night.
At least 114 GOP House members took credit for stimulus projects despite voting against it and campaigning on their opposition.
This promises to be the first of many battles between the traditional GOP and the Tea Party purists. This could be a lot of fun.
