If there is going to be a bright side to this election

The various factions in the GOP will begin an internecine war of epic proportions. Before the polls have even closed Sarah Palin has lashed out against Ed Gillespie, who is about as GOP establishment as one can get over health care repeal.

There have been more than enough threats from various Republicans that one objective will be to close down Congress. An opportunity will rise fairly quickly when the debt ceiling will have to be raised soon after the new Congress convenes.

In 1995, when Newt Gingrich shut down Congress, President Clinton's poll numbers rose and the Republicans ended taking almost all the blame. The new group of political geniuses running the party believe that Gingrich's only mistake was in not in shutting down Congress, but in not being sufficiently aggressive enough.

OK geniuses, let's see how you'll handle it this time.
