Last year 40,300 people were arrested and detained for possession of small amounts of Marijuana in New York City. 35% of New Yorkers are white yet only 10% of all those arrested were white. Assuming pot use is spread evenly among all races this suggest a high level of discrimination.
Worse yet is a 1998 law that bars anyone with an arrest for even a minor drug offense from getting any student aid. Over 200,000 students have lost access to loans because of this. Their chances of getting a job, an apartment or a loan are severly limited because they were caught .
Now many future Obama's have been denied an opportunity to achieve their full potential? It's amazing that this can still happen in the U.S., never mind in one of its most liberal cities.
