In November last year Willie Nelson was caught with about 6 ounces of pot. In Texas they are normally tough on pot smoking. One unlucky soul in Tyler Texas who unfortunately wasn't Willie Nelson got sentenced to 35 years in prison for possesion, not even dealing, about four ounces of pot. That's more than some murderers and rapists get, reminding us of the insanity of the 'War on Drugs'.
Willie is an American treasure, who among other things is reputed to have smoked pot in the White House. Willie is also synonymous with pot and should have a nationwide exemption from possessing or smoking pot.
Fortunately for Willie, Hudspeth County Attorney C.R. "Kit" Bramblett, who openly calls Nelson his "favorite artist." reduced the charge to three ounces which makes it a misdemeanor with a $100 fine and $278 in court costs. The fine can normally be mailed in but in Willies' case they made an exception. Instead he has to show up in court and perform "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain."
