Republicans to 9/11 first responders - we don't care if you're sick or dying

It's been over 9 years since 9/11. It wasn't too long after that respiratory and other health problems started cropping up. It took years before the government even acknowledged there was a problem. Nine years later the bill to finally fund health care for these first responders finally made it to the Senate. For many it is already too late. About 900 of those first responders have died since 9/11. While not all might be related to the toxins they breathed in a significant percentage is. Many more are ailing.

The Republicans blocked the bill from passing in the Senate yesterday. Some say it's just another entitlement, wasting money while others are holding their breath till their faces turn blue or until all the millionaires are guaranteed no tax increases. Either way this is typical of the GOP. They are the first to wrap themselves in the flag of patriotism, cheer on ill-conceived wars, rail against the 'not a mosque' near ground zero but when it comes to supporting those whose lives a literally on the line they are AWOL.

The IAVA (Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans of America) recently rated House members on their support for veteran's issues. 154 got a 'D' or an 'F', 142 were Republicans. Out of 94 members who got an 'A' only three where Republicans.

They have a long history of not giving a shit about the 'peons' they send into danger. Bush and Cheney both managed to avoid Vietnam yet it was John Kerry who got vilified for his service in Vietnam.

Jon Stewart put it into perspective.
