Maybe there's some contest going on among Republican legislators to see you can promote the most insane law. Obviously the rules exclude anyone who might propose a law designed to help grow the economy unless you regard the growth of prisons to be primarily an economic policy.
Louisiana State Rep. John LaBruzzo, R-Metairie wants to now eradicate all abortions in his state and sentence both women and doctors who commit this crime the ban to 15 years hard labor. The law would make no exceptions for cases of danger to the health of the mother, incest or rape, and would essentially be an attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade in the state of Louisiana.
He admits that the law wont pass in its current form and that the criminal penalties will be voted out in committee but I'll bet you any money that he wouldn't mind it making it to a vote in its current form.
